Big Data World lives up to its name at the ExCel Centre in London. Held over two days, it was a packed central hub for all things data, showcasing data solutions and technologies to their largest ever audience of IT decision makers and experts.
My first port of call was to meet up with the team from Touchstone partner TimeXtender, whose DiscoveryHub product provides the platform for our ETL Agile Data Warehouse automation product. ETL Agile is a powerful application which allows organisations of all sizes to seamlessly integrate a vast number of data sources with pre-built connectors for applications such as Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics, Infor SunSystems, without the need for SQL expertise.
As well as a traditional exhibition space, Big Data World provides industry experts with a platform to share their thoughts during many talks and sessions throughout the two days. A common thread for many of the sessions was integration and connectivity; the ability to connect to any data source, integrate and truly visualise business data is now key for organisations of any size.
One of the show highlights for me was the insight given into Dyson’s data strategy by Ryan Den Rooijen, Head of Data at Dyson. He discussed how Dyson have improved their data strategy by observing analytics driven startup organisations. These organisations are more agile and able to act more quickly on their data. The team at Dyson took from this experience that they needed to transform into digital hubs of insights for key stakeholders. With competition more fierce than ever, whatever your market, marginal gains are ever more important. Data provides these key insights into your business enabling you to monitor and act on trends.
Big Data World is an event we will certainly be back to next year, the number of vendors and experts on all things data meant that it is a must attend event for any businesses wanting to improve their data strategy, or just keep up to date with what’s going on in the world of data.
